SS14: Tänak says goodbye to the Xion Rally Argentina 2019
A big surprise in the overall classification of the fifth round of this World Rally Championship WRC). Ott Tänak stopped 10 km from the start of SS14 Mataderos-Cuchilla Nevada II (22,67km). In this way, he clears the road to Thierry Neuville (Hyundai i20 WRC) who now rules with more than 50 seconds over his teammate Andreas Mikkelsen (Hyundai i20 WRC).
The second pass in the zone of Los Gigantes left one of the most important images of this edition of the Xion Rally Argentina. The Toyota Yaris WRC of Ott Tänak parked at the side of the road, with no visible hints of a hit, but definitively with some inconvenience that stopped him from continuing in the race.
This was beneficial to Neuville, but also to the whole Hyundai Mobis Shell WRT team that now with Andreas Mikkelsen (Hyundai i20 WRC), is with a surprising first and second place in the overall.
Nevertheless, nor Kris Meeke (Toyota Yaris WRT), nor Sébastien Ogier (Citroën C3 WRC) are giving up. Both are keeping the leading rhythm and threatening the position of the Norwegian from Hyundai. Ogier was the winner of the stage, while Meeke is two and a half seconds away.
Now, the fight for the second place has Mikkelsen ahead followed by Meeke –at 11s5/10-, while Ogier is four seconds behind and Daniel Sordo (Hyundai i20 WRC) 3s6/10 behind.
Mads Ostberg (Citroën C3 R5) and Pedro Heller (Ford Fiesta R5) are the leaders of WRC2 Pro and WRC2 respectively.
